Louisiana Stonewall Democrats Congratulate New York on Legalizing Same-Sex Marriages

Capt. Cory F. Heitmeier: Six down, 44 states to go.

BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana Stonewall Democrats President Capt. Cory F. Heitmeier released the following statement congratulating the New York State Senate for passing its same-sex marriage bill.

“How fitting, symbolic and poetic that the New York State Senate would legalize same-sex marriage today, the eve of Gay Pride weekend. While Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, the District of Columbia and now New York support the notion of equal rights for their citizens, we are a long way from equality for all everywhere.

“With upstanding leadership, New York was able to pass a same-sex marriage bill; unfortunately, Louisiana lawmakers and Governor Jindal cannot muster enough courage to even support anti-bullying legislation. While we celebrate this momentous and historical occasion, we strive to have leadership that is more focused on improving the lives of Louisianans and less focused on being the GOP’s lapdog.

“Tonight, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we continue the fight…six down, 44 states to go.”

Louisiana Stonewall supports PRIDE in both The Big Easy and The Capitol City

Louisiana Stonewall Democrats will be showing our PRIDE this weekend in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. We'd like to thank all of our great volunteers who are allowing us to be in two cities at one time. And a VERY SPECIAL THANKS to Scott Bryars, Jacob Lirette, and Ricky Robards. Yall are AMAZING!
